"A beautiful, kind little boy": 6-year-old road crash victim named as Joshua Kelly

The PSNI is appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

Updated at 2pm

A SIX-YEAR-old boy who died after he was struck by a car yesterday afternoon has been named as Joshua Kelly.

Joshua was from the Newtownards area of Co Down.

The PSNI confirmed yesterday evening he had died following the collision, which happened at the Scrabo Road, Newtownards at around 3:20pm.

His mother Clare paid tribute to Joshua on Facebook:

Yesterday my beautiful boy grew his wings. And I thank god for the 6 brilliant years I had him. RIP my wee bird.

Severe shock and grief

Joshua was a student of St Finian’s Primary School in Newtownards.

In a statement released today, the school’s principal, whose name is given as Mr B Coulter, said that he would be missed by the whole community:

Joshua Kelly was a much loved pupil here in St Finian’s Primary School and will be sadly missed by the whole school community.
Joshua was a beautiful, kind little boy who was very popular with his classmates and the staff of the school.
His smile could light up a room and his bubbly, affectionate personality was infectious.

Mr Coulter said that there was a “severe sense of shock” throughout the school and that trained staff were helping to support the staff and children.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Joshua’s entire family circle and the St Finian’s school community sends them our sincerest sympathy and support.

The PSNI has appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward and assist them in their investigation.

Anyone in Northern Ireland wishing to speak to police can call officers on 101.
